Magic: The Gathering Arena

At Wizards of the Coast I help revitalize the look of Magic Online. Among the many changes my team and I explored one of the more intriguing challenges was the login screen. This was the first impression of the game for the player so I wanted make it as exciting and memorable as possible. Given the old platform on which the game was built, my options were very limited. 

On the left you can see the existing login screen. The animated screen above was what I proposed.

Unfortunately, as it turned out the technical constraints prevented an exact copy of my proposal. Despite that my proposal did go on to inspire the final vision for Magic: The Gathering Arena (on the lower left) which launched October 2018. See the animated live version here:

Speaking of Magic Arena, the image on the bottom left is the mock up of the HUD for the game that made it into the final product!

An animated mockup for Magic Online's new battle system. This was work done to improve Magic Online but instead eventually led to Magic Arena.

An animated mockup for Magic Online's new card collection system. The challenge is to be able to intuitively show hundreds of cards, be able to sort them, and make decks.
